Cape May Stage Hosts a Special Evening for Seniors
to Pay a Visit to Visiting Mr. Green

An Award-Winning Play
Starring
Ben Hammer & Peter Sabri

Senior Night: September 18, 8PM

Cape May, NJ—September 2, 2009- Cape May Stage and PNC Arts Alive are hosting the first of the 2009 fall “Senior Night Series”: a special discounted evening of theater for all senior citizens.  On Friday, September 18th at 8PM, all seniors, 62 and over, are invited to attend a performance of the multi award-winning and internationally renown play “Visiting Mr. Green” at the discounted rate of $12.50 per ticket (that’s 50% off regular box office prices). ‘Senior Nights’ sell out very quickly, so reservations are a must!

"Visiting Mr. Green," which opened at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse on September 2nd, stars Broadway veteran Ben Hammer, as the elderly Jewish recluse Mr. Green. Hammer made his Broadway debut years ago with the illustrious Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne in The Great Sebastians. He has worked with renowned directors such as Garson Kanin in the original production of The Diary of Anne Frank and Jerome Robbins in Mother Courage, which also starred Anne Bancroft. Hammer later starred again with Bancroft in Golda and in The Royal Hunt of the Sun with Christopher Plummer.   Peter Sabri, co-stars alongside Hammer playing the urban yuppie upstart, Ross. Most recently, Sabri had the honor of working on Visiting Mr. Green as a reading series, starring opposite Eli Wallach at the Players Club in New York City and the Guild Hall in East Hampton, New York.

What starts out as an “Odd Couple” style-comedy, evolves into a poignant story filled with humor and pathos. When an elderly Jewish dry cleaner (Hammer) walks into the path of an oncoming yuppie’s car (Sabri), a judge with a sense of humor requires the young man to pay a series of visits to his victim. Two worlds literally collide as these seemingly different men discover friendship in the most unexpected way, and in the process learn the dangers of intolerance and isolation.

PNC Financial Services Group is the presenting sponsor of Cape May Stage’s “Senior Night Series.” The support is part of PNC Arts Alive, a five-year, $5 million investment from The PNC Foundation, to help area residents gain access to the arts, and help arts organizations expand and engage audiences.  Seniors are encouraged to attend “Visiting Mr. Green” on Friday, September 18th at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse at Bank & Lafayette Streets in downtown Cape May for $12.50 per ticket. The final public performance of the current run is at 8pm on Saturday evening, September 26th.

Tickets are $35 adults, $25 seniors, and $12.50 students.

Ticket Savings at East Lynne Theater Company
By dining at several of Cape May's fine restaurants, staying at B&Bs, bringing in ticket stubs, showing membership cards, and going online, patrons can save money on tickets for East Lynne Theater Company, recently voted one of the top two Equity professional theaters in the state in the Discover Jersey Arts' "People’s Choice Awards."
When making a reservation at the restaurant, all patrons have to do is ask for the ELTC-Dinner-Show-Package. Tickets are purchased at the restaurant, and brought to the theater for admission. There are variations in the offerings.
At Aleathea's Restaurant at The Inn of Cape May, located at 7 Ocean St., the total amount is $45 for dinner, including tax and a token gratuity, plus the ticket. To make a reservation, call 884-5555. The opening night party for "The Butter and Egg Man" on Sept. 23 will be here.
At the Washington Inn, 801 Washington St., the total price for a complete dinner anytime, plus a ticket, is $54. Reservations: 884-5687.  The opening night party for "Alice on the Edge" was here.
The Merion Inn, 106 Decatur St., offers an $18 ticket with a purchase of one entrée anytime, or a three-course early bird special, costing $18.95, if seated before 5:30. Reservations: 884-8363.  This restaurant hosted the opening-night party for the world premiere of "The Ransom of Red Chief."
At 410 Bank Street, 410 Bank St., and Frescos, a Seafood Trattoria, located at 412 Bank St., tickets are $14, which is half-the-price of a general-admission ticket, with a dinner purchase. Reservations for 410 Bank Street Restaurant: 884-2127, and Frescos: 884-0366.
On Oct. 16 from 5:00-7:00, the Church of the Advent, located at Washington and Franklin Sts., is serving up dinner: $10 for adults + $20 ticket; $4 for children, and anyone age 12 and under, as always, receives a free theater ticket.  If you call ahead for reservations, 884-3065, dinner is only $8, which means that the price of both dinner and ELTC’s production of "The Butter and Egg Man" = $28. Bring your own beverage: soda, beer, or wine.
The two bed and breakfasts are The Henry Sawyer Inn, 722 Columbia Ave., and The Victorian Lace Inn, 901 Stockton Ave.  Tickets at both locations are $18, offered only to the B&Bs' guests, and must be purchased at the inns.  For The Henry Sawyer, call 884-5667 or 800-449-5667 or online at www.henrysawyerinn.com.  For Victorian Lace, phone 884-1772 or online at www.victorianlaceinn.com.
Bring in your ticket stub from any ELTC, Cape May Stage, or Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts' Musical Festival performance, and receive $3 off the price of a ticket for the current production.
Two tickets-for-the-price-of-one-general-admission-price are available by showing the following membership cards: "Discover Jersey Arts" card on any night, and "NJN Public Television and Radio" card on Friday nights, subject to availability.  Half-price tickets are also available online through njArtsTix.org.
ELTC's ticket prices are $28 for general admission; $23 for seniors (age 62 and over) and people with disabilities and their support companions; $13 for students; and anyone ages 12 and under is free.  The company performs at The First Presbyterian Church, the corner of Decatur and Hughes Streets, where ELTC is in residence, with an 8:30p.m. curtain for "Ransom" and an 8:00p.m. curtain for "The Butter and Egg Man."
Currently, ELTC is presenting "The Ransom of Red Chief" running through Sept. 5 only.  The company goes into rehearsals for George S. Kaufman's "The Butter and Egg Man," with a cast of 10, for an opening night on Sept. 23, which already has advance ticket sales of over sixty.
ELTC's programs would not be possible without the support of Curran Investment Management, Aleathea's Restaurant, La Mer Beachfront Inn, the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, The New Jersey Department of State, Division of Travel and Tourism, and the generosity of many patrons.

For information and reservations, contact ELTC at 884-5898, or (click here).
