The story begins with the patriarch of the family, Marvin Hume, who is 83 and still intimately involved with the business -- starting a similar type of business on the Atlantic City Boardwalk in 1957. This was before casino gambling became Atlantic City's main attraction. Over the next several years, Marvin became good friends with Preston Shadbolt who owned the property at Sunset Beach. Upon retiring, Preston gave Marvin first choice to purchase the property. Marvin being a consummate business man recognized what the future could bring. So in September 1973, Marvin and his wife purchased the property. In the years to come, Marvin's son Larry and wife Michele joined the business, with Larry taking the reins of the operation while working closely with his dad. Marvin's two daughters Kathy and Sharon soon joined the ranks as did Larry's mother-in-law, Jeanette. The business continued to prosper and grow. All visitors passing through our doors can expect the family members and trusted employees to treat them with personalized service and a smile. We all take pride in making everyone feel right at home when visiting our area!

East Lynne Theater helps the Food Closet and other December events
As usual this time of year, the Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company will be accepting nonperishable items for the Cape May Food Closet. What is needed are paper products, tooth paste, and food, with current and future expiration dates.
Of course, items will be accepted any time, but for patrons attending the Friday, Dec. 11 performance of ELTC's "Christmas in Black and White" they will save $3.00 off the already low admission price when bringing Food Closet items. This $3.00 deduction cannot be combined with any other deduction, such as the $3.00 savings when bringing in a theater stub from a past production.
There are only three performances remaining of the world premiere of "Christmas in Black and White:" Sunday, Dec. 6, and Friday and Saturday, Dec. 11 and 12 at 8:30pm, where the company is in residence, at The First Presbyterian Church of Cape May, 500 Hughes St. As usual with ELTC's Christmas shows, the company reduces its regular ticket price as an early holiday gift to its audience. Tickets are $23 for general admission; $13 for full-time students, and as always with ELTC productions, those ages twelve and under are free. Dinner/Theater packages are still available at the following restaurants: The Merion Inn, Aleathea's Restaurant, and The Washington Inn.
"Christmas in Black and White" is based on Chris Clemans' "Christmas at The Whalers' Cottages," Zora Neale Hurston's "Tell My Horse," "Thanksgiving at the Polls" and "9 Linwood Street" by Edward Everett Hale, "Mirama’s Christmas Test" by T. Thomas Fortune, and "Momma's Missionary Money" by Chester Himes, all adapted and performed by Stephanie Garrett and Gayle Stahlhuth.  Like last year's well-received and reviewed production of "O. Henry's Christmas Stories," a variety of characters are portrayed in storytelling-fashion, where the turn of the head, and the tone of voice can bring a character to life in a heartbeat.
One reason there are only five performances of the Christmas show is that ELTC is very busy this time of year. Members of the company are performing and conducting workshops for an Elderhostel and the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts' Dickens Christmas Extravaganza; performing for several organizations including the Cape May Garden Club and the Lower Township Chamber of Commerce, as well as The Ghosts of Christmas Past Trolley Tours that run almost nightly through January 2.
Season tickets for 2010 are available and make a great Christmas present! The price is 5 shows for only $90.00, a $40 savings for single-ticket General Admission. They can still be used in any way at any time. Use all 5 for one show, or see 5 different shows, and any combination in-between. There are six productions planned for 2010. Season tickets may be purchased at the box office, through the website, or by mailing a check to the office: 121 Fourth Ave., West Cape May, NJ 08204.

For information and reservations, contact ELTC at 884-5898, or (click here).
