Cape May Stage
Cape May, NJ- Cape May Stage, Cape May's renowned Equity theatre company, now in its 20th consecutive season of offering professional theatre in Cape May, is hosting their second annual Cottagers’ Night at the Theatre on Monday, August 25th at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse on the corner of Bank and Lafayette Streets in downtown Cape May.
Beginning at 6:30PM, members of the Cottagers’ Association along with the Board and staff of Cape May Stage are invited to attend an outdoor summer cocktail party in the theatre’s piazza followed by a private showing of John Patrick Shanley’s Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning play, “Doubt.” Guests at the event will enjoy assorted gourmet cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. At 7:30PM the festivities will move to the newly restored auditorium for the evening’s special performance. Guests will be able to digest the culinary delights as they sit back in the theatre's new, comfortable, stadium style seats and take in the show.
“Doubt” is set in a Bronx Catholic school in 1964, where a strong-minded woman wrestles with conscience and uncertainty as she is faced with concerns about one of her male colleagues. This compelling drama by John Patrick Shanley (the Bronx-born-and-bred playwright and Academy Award-winning author of Moonstruck) dramatizes issues straight from today’s headlines, within a world recreated with knowing detail and a judicious eye.
After last year’s inaugural success, Cape May Stage’s Vice President of the Board of Trustees Tom Cutler is thrilled to bring back Cottagers’ Night at the Theatre for another season. “The restoration that began four years ago has transformed the building from a dilapidated 150 year-old church into a state-of-the-art theatre,” states Cutler. “Cape May Stage is proud to open the doors to the newly restored interior, show off our new tiered seats, and celebrate 20 years of great theatre by throwing a special event with the Cottagers’ Association of Cape May.”
Cottagers’ Night at the Theatre is August 25th at 6:30PM and is for one night only. Tickets for this event are $45 each.Cottagers’ Night at the Theatre is generously sponsored by Gail Wilsey of Wilsey Real Estate, Tom & Deborah Cutler of Wilsey Real Estate, Matt & Mary Trella, Susan & Perry Collier.

East Lynne Theater Company presents an ASL performance of "The Guardsman"
On Friday, Aug. 22 at 8:30p.m., there will be an American Sign Language Interpretation of Franz Molnar's lush, romantic comedy "The Guardsman" produced by the Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company, New Jersey's home for American Stage Classics.
On October 13, 1924, The Theater Guild's production of "The Guardsman" opened on Broadway at the Garrick Theater, with Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne playing the roles of the "Actor" and "Actress." This production launched the fame of this celebrated married-acting-team, who performed together through 1960 in productions such as "Pygmalion," "Design for Living," and "The Visit."
Playing the roles of the Actress and Actor in "The Guardsman" are the married-in-real-life couple, Mark Edward Lang and Alison J. Murphy, who recently appeared in ELTC's highly acclaimed "You and I" and "Why Marry?" and met while performing in ELTC’s 2001 production of "The Dictator."
Also in the cast are two other ELTC favorites: Thomas Raniszewski and Gayle Stahlhuth.
Thomas was in ELTC's recent production of "Why Marry?" and Gayle is in her tenth year of being Artistic Director of ELTC.
New to ELTC is Edward Furs whose recent work includes roles in all the "Law and Orders" and the last season of "The Sopranos."
Karen Case Cook, who performed in ELTC's "You and I" and "Two-Headed," is making her directorial debut with the company. Her next directing adventure is the world premiere of "Helpful Hints," performed by Susan Tischler at the Chalfonte Hotel, also produced by ELTC.
The theatrical ASL interpreters are Kathy Filippo and Gina Lanza, who have performed many times for ELTC. The process involves them seeing the production at least once, plus going over the script several times to figure out who will interpret which roles, and in many cases, come up with signage for unusual names and words.
"The Guardsman," runs Wednesdays through Saturdays, through August 30 at 8:30p.m., where ELTC is in residence at the First Presbyterian Church, 500 Hughes Street, in Cape May. Tickets are $25 general admission; $20 for seniors and those with disabilities and their support companions; and $10 for full-time students. Children ages 12 and under are always free.
For information and reservations, contact ELTC at 884-5898, or (click here).
Mark Edward Lang and Alison J. Murphy who are in East Lynne Theater Company's production of "The Guardsman" playing from Aug. 6-30.

Oyster Bay Steak & Seafood Restaurant
615 Lafayette Street , Cape May, NJ
Phone 1-609-884-2411
When you have the words “oyster,” “steak” and “seafood” as part of your name, the chances are good that what you’re offering to the dining public is absolutely delicious, and that’s the right assumption when it comes to the menu at this wonderful restaurant, featuring three dining rooms with a nautical theme, located at 615 Lafayette Street in historic Cape May, New Jersey.
Let’s start with the first part of their name. It comes from their presentation of Long Island and Chesapeake oysters prepared in a variety of ways, and also as an appetizer. Next, four different cuts of dry-aged certified Angus beef mean that steak and beef lovers can choose the perfect meal, as well. As to seafood, they have many seafood offerings including “heart smart” dishes such as steamed salmon and a stuffed portabella and seafood combo served over linguini.
Then, Oyster Bay goes beyond what you might expect to offer new versions of classic meat and seafood combinations, such as veal and shrimp in a spicy tomato sauce, chicken with lump crabmeat in a key lime hollandaise, and filet mignon with lobster & crab béarnaise.
They also have a new bar featuring a martini menu and a great wine list. When you add the fact that their portions are huge (“Monster-sized portions” according to reviews), and that they’re perfect for two people all the way up to large parties, Oyster Bay Steak and Seafood Restaurant & Bar becomes the perfect place for your next great meal with the special person, or people, in your life.
