Welcome to our Newsletter...

Ah, April. Summer is on its way! Well, we do have most of spring yet, but spring is a wonderful time at the shore, so we won’t rush things too quickly. It’s good to know that those warm days and balmy nights aren’t far off, and that all the sun and fun on and off the beaches will be ready and waiting when you arrive.

Speaking of arriving, we’re looking forward to the arrival of The Great Vacation In-Room and Online Vacation Guide for 2008 – appearing in hotels, motels, B&B’s, whole house rentals and guest rooms from Absecon and Atlantic City to Cape May this year – re-designed with you in mind – bringing you the information you need to have great vacations throughout the region.

Another source for vacation data is our primary website: www.GreatVacationGuide.com the place where you find a wealth of information about what you need to know to plan your vacations, weekend getaways and day trips, plus the links to every shore and bay town in the state of New Jersey who are now listed as part of the Great Vacation family of websites.

Then, there’s www.GreatVacationShoreRentals.com... another great website that showcases shore rental properties along the shore, and www.GreatVacationPropertyRentals.com, the website that will be taking you to many, many new places in the future.

This newsletter is also a year round source of information, and because it’s FREE we ask you to share it with everyone during the year. Send it to folks far and near – around the corner, across the nation, and around the world. Our goal is to help everyone have a Great Vacation…that’s how we got our name.

So, once again, welcome to April…and welcome to another Great Vacation!

NJ's Tall Ship AJ MEERWALD
is coming to a port near you!
2008 Sail Season begins April 9th: Take a sail on the Delaware River in Philadelphia, Camden, or Burlington

Bivalve, NJ - The AJ MEERWALD begins her 2008 sail season by traveling from her home port in Bivalve, NJ up the Delaware River to Philadelphia, Camden and Burlington during the month of April.

On April 9th the MEERWALD is expected to arrive in Philadelphia for a series of school sails. On Friday April 11th, she sails across the river to Camden and will be docked at Wiggins Park near the Battleship New Jersey. There will be a dockside open house with free deck tours on Friday evening from 6:00 to 7:00pm, and 2 1/2 hour public sails are available on Saturday, April 12th and Sunday, April 13th at 1:30pm and at 5:00pm.

The next public sail opportunity is on Friday, April 18th. Passengers can join the MEERWALD for a Transit Adventure from Philadelphia to Burlington, NJ for the annual "Oyster's Overboard" event on Burlington's Riverfront Promenade. This is a one-way trip, but light rail back to Philadelphia is available in Burlington.

"Oyster's Overboard", sponsored by the Greater Burlington Chamber of Commerce, costs $30 in advance or $35 at the door. From 5:30 to 7:30pm a steel drum trio will provide entertainment while guests enjoy appetizers, desserts, beer & wine, and of course, oysters! The MEERWALD will be open at dockside for deck tours. This evening of entertainment and refreshments on the waterfront is frequently a sellout. Advance tickets for "Oyster's Overboard" can be purchased around Burlington or by calling 609-387-7265.

MEERWALD stays in Burlington for the next week and there are opportunities to sail on April 19, 20 & 26, including the popular Pirate Sail on Saturday afternoon! Sails depart from the riverfront dock near the Oneida Boat Club where York Street meets the river. On Monday April 21 there will be a free open house on board from 5:00 to 7:00pm for those who want to visit the ship at the dock.

Finally, for adventurous spirits, there is another Transit Adventure on Sunday April 27th. This will be a 14-16 hour sail from Burlington to our home port of Bivalve, NJ. The MEERWALD will depart the Burlington dock at 7:00am, sail down the Delaware River and into the Delaware Bay, and arrive in Bivalve well after dark. This trip offers a unique rivers-eye view of the Delaware Valley, from city-scapes and bridges to historic forts and lighthouses. It should be wonderful trip for photography buffs, bird-watchers, or anyone wanting to live the life of a Tall Ship Sailor for a day.

Tickets may be purchased at the boat if space is available, but advance reservations are highly recommended. Call 856-785-2060. For more information visit the Bayshore Discovery Project (click here), or e-mail info@bayshorediscovery.org.

The Bayberry Inn

What do you associate with the perfect summers in your memories? Permit us to suggest a few words that might help bring those memories to life once again: Sunshine, Bayberry, Ivy, Coral, Rose…these are the names of suites and rooms at The Bayberry Inn, the historic and delightful bed and breakfast inn named the “…best B&B for walking to shops and restaurants…” in Cape May by Arrington’s B&B Journal.

One of the oldest homes in Cape May, the original structure dates to circa 1800, and it is believed to have been the home of a whaling captain. The front portion of the house, dating to 1856, was constructed by Joseph Q. Williams in the “carpenter Gothic style.” Mr. Williams served three terms as the Mayor of Cape May during the Civil War period.

In 1999 the home was purchased by Andy and Toby Fontaine, your hosts and innkeepers, who are uniquely qualified to bring you the very best in bed and breakfast hospitality. Native to the area, they transformed this historic structure into a warm, inviting bed and breakfast inn that welcomes guests with lovely private rooms that are ideally named for their comfort and amenities. Guests begin each day with a full 3-course breakfast in an atmosphere filled with lovely period antiques, a variety of blooming orchids, and happy conversation. Linger over another cup of coffee if you like, anticipating  what the day will bring; then prepare to discover all that Victorian Cape May has to offer.  Andy and Toby are available and happy to help with dinner reservations or whatever is needed.

The Bayberry Inn provides free onsite parking for all their guests.  They are centrally located just two blocks from the beach, and one block from the Washington Street Mall. Open all year round, The Bayberry Inn is the perfect getaway destination for you. It’s time you made some delightful new memories…at The Bayberry Inn. (click here)

Szechwan Garden

For twenty-seven years – since 1981 when this very special family-owned and operated restaurant opened in Ocean City, New Jersey – Szechwan Garden has been helping to make people smile during lunch and dinner. The reason is quite simple – delicious food at reasonable prices.

Through the years Ocean City residents, vacationers and visitors have been enjoying lunch and dinner at Szechwan Garden seven days a week. Their menu is filled with so many delicious choices that newcomers may have a little difficulty making their choice, and so we’d like to make a recommendation: you’ll simply have to go back to Szechwan Garden again and again until you’ve sampled all their delicious dishes.

Szechwan Garden’s food is so good that they expand to their second location during the summer season to the Ocean City boardwalk Eighth Street Boardwalk Promenade Food Court. (Open weekends during May, and July 4th through Labor Day seven days a week.) So, if you’re strolling the boards, or downtown in Ocean City, Szechwan Garden is near you.

For those who simply can’t make up their minds there is one item on the menu in particular that should be sampled: General Tso’s Chicken. Patrons rave about it. In fact, one customer who travels extensively all over the nation says that Szechwan Garden’s preparation of General Tso’s Chicken is the best he’s sampled anywhere! There’s no monosodium glutamate (MSG) in the food at Szechwan Garden, and reservations aren’t necessary. Join the Szechwan Garden family and have a little celebration in your life for lunch, dinner, or both. Szechwan Garden – making folks smile for nearly three decades!
