Cape May Stage presents "Rounding Third"

Cape May, NJ- It's bottom of the sixth.
You're up to bat. Bases are loaded.
Run straight to Cape May Stage for tickets to Richard Dresser's “Rounding Third” at a price YOU want to pay! On Sunday, October 5th, Cape May Stage and PNC have teamed up to offer a ‘pay what you can’ night for theatergoers to attend the Stage’s latest production.  This is the second season that the city’s renowned professional Equity theatre, now celebrating its 20th anniversary season, has offered these special evenings of theatre. The ticket amount paid is entirely at the discretion of the theatergoer and is intended to draw those who are deterred by the traditionally higher prices.
“The staff at Cape May Stage hopes that many young people and their families - as well as senior citizens - will be able to attend a production this fall at Cape May Stage during our 20th Anniversary Season”, says Marketing Director Alicia Grasso. “We want everyone, if they haven’t already, to come see our restored theatre and enjoy a play.  We only have two more ‘pay what you can’ performances left in the season.”
“Rounding Third” is the perfect sports comedy for anyone who has ever experienced the thrill of victory or the agony of defeat while cheering on the child they love in everything from sports to science fairs. This quirky comedy teams up two mismatched men to coach a Little League baseball team. Don (Greg Wood) is a win-at-all-costs veteran whose son is the star pitcher; Michael (Richard Hoehler) is the wide-eyed newcomer who just wants the kids to have fun.  Balls will fly as these co-coaches battle it out in the box. Exhilarating victories, heartbreaking defeats, and life lessons round out this play, sure to hit home.

Tickets for designated ‘pay what you can’ performances go on sale at the box office at 7:45PM prior to an 8PM curtain time on October 5th. Regular ticket prices range from $12.50- $35. Whatever tickets have not been sold for that evening’s performance will be ‘pay what you can’ and will be distributed on a first-come first-serve basis. Cash sales and exact change only. Seating for all ‘pay what you can’ performances is subject to availability and is not guaranteed.
“Rounding Third” performances are Wednesdays thru Sundays at 8pm thru November 1st at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse of the Cape May Stage. A marvelous Dinner-and-a-Show package promotion is available with 17 of the finest restaurants in Cape May. This production is generously sponsored by CapeBank Charitable Foundation and co-sponsored by Carney’s. For more information (click here)

East Lynne Theater Company presents an ASL performance of "To the Ladies!"

On Friday, Oct. 10 at 8:00p.m., there will be an American Sign Language Interpretation of the 1922 George S. Kaufman and Marc Connelly comedy "To the Ladies!" produced by the Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company, New Jersey's home for American Stage Classics. This production was honored by being one of eleven events in the state to be selected by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts as part of the American Masterpieces Series, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts.
"To the Ladies!" was on Broadway in 1922 starring Helen Hayes, and ELTC's artistic director Gayle Stahlhuth hasn't found another production since 1926. In fact, the first time Kaufman's daughter, Anne, had ever seen a production was when she visited Cape May to see the show.  Last Friday, after the performance, she spent a delightful hour with the audience, answering questions and talking about her father, who was one of the most influential playwrights and directors of the American stage.  She found it interesting that even in her father's early comedies, he wrote about intelligent women, a theme that continued right through his final play in the 50's, "Solid Gold Cadillac." This was Anne's first visit to Cape May and to ELTC. She found the production "divine" and plans on paying another visit to Cape May and ELTC.
She's not the only one who's enjoyed "To the Ladies!"  Several audiences have responded with standing ovations, and Terry Teachout's review in "The Wall Street Journal," called the production "thoroughly enjoyable," and "well-staged, with an excellent cast." The eight actors include Suzanne Dawson, Ken Glickfeld, Robert LeMaire, Tiffany-Leigh Moskow, John Morton, Morgan Nichols, and Terry Harris, under the direction of Gayle Stahlhuth, who is also in the comedy.
The theatrical ASL interpreters are Kathy Filippo and Gina Lanza, who have performed many times for ELTC. The process involves them seeing the production at least once, plus going over the script several times to figure out who will interpret which roles, and in many cases, come up with signage for unusual names and words.
Tickets are $25 general admission; $20 for seniors and those with disabilities and their support companions; and $10 for full-time students. Children ages 12 and under are always free. The location is The First Presbyterian Church, 500 Hughes St., Cape May, where the company is in residence.  "To the Ladies!" runs every Wednesday through Saturday through October 18 only.
Meanwhile, the 2008 season finale of ELTC’s "Tales of the Victorians" is on Saturday, Oct. 11 at The Cliveden Inn, 709 Columbia Ave. Ticket price is $7.00 and anyone ages twelve and under is free.
The Dinner-and-an-ELTC-Show-Combo is at the following restaurants: Aleathea's, Bloody Mary's Bar & Grill, 410 Bank Street, Frescos, The Mad Batter, Martini Beach, The Washington Inn, The Merion Inn, and the Church of the Advent.
The production of "To the Ladies!" would not be possible without season sponsors Curran
Investment Management, Aleathea's Restaurant, La Mer Beachfront Inn, and funding received
through a grant from the New Jersey Department of State, Division of Travel and Tourism, as well as this show's sponsor, The Cliveden Inn, and the generosity of many patrons.
For information and reservations, contact ELTC at 884-5898, or (click here).

The cast of East Lynne Theater Company's "To the Ladies!" with Anne Kaufman: Morgan Nichols, Suzanne Dawson, Ken Glickfeld, Tiffany-Leigh Moskow, Anne Kaufman, John Morton, Gayle Stahlhuth, Rob LeMaire, and Terry Harris. "To the Ladies!" runs through Oct. 18.
