Edition 3, Volume 2
February 1, 2007
Today's Date:
Welcome to our Newsletter...

Ah, February…when thoughts turn to…June…unless you’re a “winter” person. You know what we mean. Winter people like snow, a warm fire, scarves and mittens, sled riding and skiing, ice skating, hot chocolate, and cold weather. Spring people like it when the weather warms and the world wakes up from its deep winter sleep. Summer people love to hit the beach, and fall people are into falling leaves (unless they have to rake them), Halloween, etc.

We’re speaking, of course, in generalities. Most of us like all the seasons of the year, and February is a great month for many reasons. It’s the month when very important people arrived in the world: George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and many others – perhaps you, too? (Even one of our editors was born in February) It’s the month for that romantic day we call St. Valentine’s Day. It’s also a month when more issues of the Great Vacation newsletter come your way.

As usual, since the newsletter is FREE, we ask you to email it to all your friends, neighbors, relatives and folks you know. It will help them prepare for the warm months coming up when thoughts turn to sand, water, boardwalks, beaches,  bathing suits and sunbathing, beach volleyball and other beach games, body surfing, surfing, fishing, crabbing, boating, etc., etc.

It is February and we have places to stay, dine and enjoy the entertainment in this issue. You’ll find attractions to see, who is coming to perform at the casinos, information about shopping, real estate, and other things to see and do. You can link to our main website and plan where you would like to stay for your Great Vacation this year. You can book your stay today and beat the crowd. It’s never too early to schedule your next vacation “…down the shore.”

Check out the picture galleries, and be sure to see the pictures many of you have sent into us. Share your thoughts with us, send us your favorite shore photos, and enjoy February. You can even wish Bill (one of our editors) a Happy Birthday. (He was born on Valentine’s Day so he got a lot of cards in elementary school.)  Happy Birthday to you, too…if February is your birth month!

So, if winter isn’t your thing you can do two things. You could stand up, close your eyes, click your heels together three times and say “Spring, Spring, Spring!” (Unfortunately, nothing will happen except that the people around you may start running away.) or, Number Two: Read this newsletter and its links and then email it to your friends. Something good will happen as you plan your next Great Vacation! (as they say in those emails you get – “Don’t break the chain!”)

                                                                                     Sincerely,

-The Editors

For Your Information...

Bradley Beach, New Jersey

According to the “legends,” Captain William Kidd anchored his ship off what was known as Duck Creek (now called Sylvan Lake) back in the year 1679, found his way to a spot beneath two large pine trees, and then buried his treasure there. He then left the area never to return, and the treasure has never been found.

Fast forward roughly 200 years to 1871 when William B. Bradner and James A. Bradley, a wealthy New York manufacturer, invest in the purchase of 54 acres of land that would carry Bradley’s name alone, and Bradley Beach was born. Twenty-two years later in 1893 Bradley Beach became an incorporated community, and by the year 1927 it was a very popular resort town.

Today there are approximately 5,000 year-round residents in Bradley Beach, and the population swells to about 30,000 in the summer season. This Monmouth County resort town is below Ocean Grove, and it is a place of lovely homes, inviting shops and restaurants and a great beach, as well as another boardwalk you’ll discover along the New Jersey shoreline.

In this case the Bradley Beach boardwalk extends for a mile along the beautiful and inviting sandy beach, and summertime is when visitors and residents can hear the sounds of music – for listening and dancing – coming from the gazebo that is next to the boardwalk.

Bradley Beach is one more coastal New Jersey resort town where you can “…walk the boards.” For more information on Bradley Beach, New Jersey go online to www.bradleybeachonline.com
