Welcome to our Newsletter...
|
|
It’s the Ides of October! (the mid point). Can the “Night of the Great Pumpkin” be far behind? With an acknowledgement to “Peanuts” and the late, beloved Charles Shultz for creating the concept, we hope Charlie Brown, Lucy and all their supporting players get to dress up this year as their favorite characters, and we hope you do, too! Halloween brings out the kid in many of us.
Speaking of kids we’re all kids when it comes to having a good time, and the town calendars listed in “Great Vacation Things to Do” in this issue offer a whole lot of choices for the second half of October. Check them out. For the entertainers who are coming to the Atlantic City stages during the next month, see the “Atlantic City Scene” in this issue. Read here about the photo contest, and see the host of favorite shore photos sent in by newsletter readers!
Mid-October is a great time to visit the shore. The autumn leaves, cool breezes and fun things to do from Brigantine to Cape May invite vacationers, weekenders and day-trippers to come and stroll along the sands, enjoy the ever-changing ocean, and have a great time in the shops, restaurants and attractions throughout the region.
Remember to send this newsletter to everyone you know. Tell perfect strangers about it! Send it to Congress! (They need to lighten up once in awhile.) Tell your family members. Tell your neighbors. After all, it’s a FREE source of great information about where to go and what to do to make a great vacation, a fantastic weekend, or a super day trip!
You can even book your vacation for next year! Check out GreatVacationShoreRentals.com
We’re building even more information and opportunities for you at Great Vacation and we’ll keep you informed in these pages about our progress. Let’s just say that in 2008 there are going to be some mighty BIG NEW THINGS coming your way from the Great Vacation family but we’ll keep them secret for a little while!
So, grab your jacket or sweater and check out all you can do here in the Great Vacation E-Newsletter! It’s time to be a kid again! It’s what October is all about!

Sincerely,
The Editors

Cape May Stage
2007 Cape May Stage Schedule
Cape May's renowned professional Equity theatre, is hosting two special evenings of theater. The first one will benefit Cape May’s Local Food Closet and the second is a special discounted night of theatre for all senior citizens. On Saturday October 20th, the Equity theatre is generously donating a portion of the evening’s box office proceeds to benefit Cape May’s Local Food Closet. Cape May Stage hopes everyone will come buy a ticket and help to make Saturday night’s production of “Turn of the Screw” a sell-out performance.
The following Friday, October 26th at 8PM, all seniors, 62 and over, are invited to attend the “Turn of the Screw” performance at the discounted rate of $10 per ticket. ‘Senior Nights’ sell out very quickly, so reservations are a must!
Described by Oscar Wilde as, “a most wonderful, lurid and poisonous little tale”, “The Turn of the Screw” is probably the most famous and controversial Victorian Ghost story ever written. Cape May Stage, Cape May’s premier professional Equity theatre company, proudly presents Henry James’ classic ghost story as the latest in the Stage’s annual series of gothic thrilling stage adaptations now through October 27.
Among the best of the psychological horror genre, “The Turn of the Screw” was first published in 1895. In 1950, William Archibald wrote a stage adaptation he titled, “The Innocents.” That version sired a 1954 opera by Benjamin Britten and a 1961 movie starring Deborah Kerr as the governess.
“The Turn of the Screw” performances are Wednesdays thru Sundays at 8:00 pm thru October 27 at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse of the Cape May Stage. Tickets are $28 adults, $20 seniors, and $10 students. Call (609) 884-1341 for reservations and information (click here)
This production is co-sponsored by Kurkowski Market Research and The Ugly Mug.
“Turn of the Screw” Now through October 27
A young governess goes to a lonely English manor house to care for two recently orphaned children, but she is frightened and tormented by ghostly fiends who appear to want to destroy the children.
“Flying Solo Festival IV” October 31 November 10
For the fourth year in a row the Flying Solo Festival features virtuoso performances, unsupported by elaborate sets and props or other actors! It’s a tour-de-force featuring original one-person performances in American theater.
“The Annual Holiday Show” November 23 December 30

East Lynne Theater Company
On Friday, Oct. 19, immediately following a performance of her one-woman play, "Lou: The Remarkable Miss Alcott," patrons will have the opportunity to ask questions of the performer/writer Gayle Stahlhuth, who calls "home" New York City as well as West Cape May, has performed Off-Broadway, in summer stock, regional theater, and national tours, as well as in television, film, and radio.
East Lynne Theater Company, New Jersey's home for American Stage Classics, is presenting only four performances of "Lou," from Oct. 17-20 at 8:00pm, where the company is in residence, at The First Presbyterian Church of Cape May, 500 Hughes St. Tickets are $23 for general admission; $18 for seniors; $8 for full-time students, and those ages twelve and under are free.
After "Louisa" leaves, there are still other ELTC events to follow. A new radio-style play for Sherlock Holmes' Weekend performs in Cape May on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2 and 3, before traveling up to Mahwah for a Sunday performance. This time, it's "The Adventure of the Speckled Band" with live sound effects, just like the original 1930 NBC radio productions.
On Sunday, Nov. 4, ELTC is also sponsoring a day trip to Peddler's Village, in Pennsylvania. On Thursday, Nov. 8 is East Lynne's annual fundraiser, "101 Nights: A Magical Gala," featuring magician extraordinaire Robert Aberdeen, Middle Eastern Dancer Victoria Papale, and performers Mark Edward Lang and Alison J. Murphy. Once more, this special evening of food and fun, with an auction, will take place at Aleathea's Restaurant. "Louisa May Alcott's Christmas" rounds out the 2007 Season with shows between Nov. 23-Dec. 8
The Dinner-and-an-ELTC-Show-Combo still continues at the following restaurants: Aleathea's, Bloody Mary's Bar and Grill, 410 Bank Street, Frescos, The Mad Batter, Martini Beach, and The Washington Inn.
For information and reservations, (click here).
East Lynne’s season would not be possible without the support of Curran Investment Management, La Mer Beachfront Inn, Aleathea’s Restaurant, the NJ State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, and the generosity of many patrons.

OYSTERFEST 2007 AN OYSTER FEAST! FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2007
WHAT: OysterFest 2007 fund raising dinner and auctions
WHEN: Friday, November 16, 2007 at 6:30 p.m.
WHERE: Centerton Country Club Pittsgrove, NJ
WHY: To benefit the education programs and operations of the Bayshore Discovery Project
Attention all Oyster Lovers! The Bayshore Discovery Project invites you to a great evening of delicious oysters and fabulous auctions. For the first time, Oysterfest will be held in the Grand Ballroom at the Centerton Country Club in Pittsgrove. This spacious venue will allow us to accommodate more guests at this always sell-out event, and provide more elbow room at the usually bustling auction.
OysterFest 2007 will feature a dinner of oysters prepared ‘every which way’, plus plenty of landlubber fare, beverages and desserts. The evening begins at 6:30pm with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and dinner follows at 7:15pm. A cash bar will be open throughout the evening.
Extraordinary auctions will feature ‘The Best on the Bay’ for your bidding pleasure:
The silent auction will offer original artworks by some of South Jersey’s best-known artists. A live auction will feature a variety of exciting packages, including a prime-time Cancun vacation getaway, a relaxing Rehoboth Beach weekend, a Bowling Birthday Extravaganza at Loyle Lanes, a private dinner party for eight featuring the ‘Bounty of the Bay’, and many others.
Proceeds from this event benefit the Bayshore Discovery Project’s education programs including the shipboard programs that take place onboard the historic 1928 oyster schooner AJ MEERWALD, New Jersey’s official Tall Ship.
Tickets for OysterFest are $75.00 each. Reservations are required; full tables may be reserved for groups of eight. The reservation deadline is November 9th, but those purchasing tickets by November 1st will also be entered into a drawing to win an Ipod shuffle! Call 856-785-2060.
The Bayshore Discovery Project is a not for profit educational organization that owns and operates the AJ MEERWALD. The Bayshore Discovery Project’s mission is to motivate people to take care of the environment, the history and the culture of New Jersey’s Bayshore region through education, preservation and example.
The Bayshore Discovery Project received an operating support grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission, a Division of Cultural Affairs in the Department of State.
