Time for a fun family outing to the Cape May County Historical Museum, next to the Alexander Memorial Genealogical Library, located at 504 Route 9 North in Cape May Court House, New Jersey, just a quarter-mile from one of the most family-friendly zoos in America, the Cape May County Zoo.
The Cape May County Historical Society was formed back in 1927, and the idea for a museum was born. In 1976 the museum took up residence in the John Holmes House, which dates to 1755, and is listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
Your family and friends will discover collections of costumes, furnishings, decorative and practical objects, and tools from the 17th through the 20th centuries. You’ll see “period” rooms, such as a Victorian Sitting Room, an 18th century kitchen and bathroom, a doctor’s office complete with surgical instruments, a military room displaying artifacts from the Revolutionary War through the Gulf War, and much more.
You’ll also find exhibits devoted to Native Americans, and to the remarkable maritime history of historic Cape May, New Jersey.
